Obituary for Ken Fletcher

Floyd Kenneth Fletcher, age 92 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Saturday, April 25, 2020 at Capital Region Medical Center surrounded by family.

Ken was born May 17, 1927 in Jefferson City, Mo. the son of Floyd E. and Edna (Schubert) Fletcher. In 1949, he married Jennie Sue Neff at First United Methodist Church in Jefferson City and she preceded him in death in 1972. On November 3,1974, he married Patricia Louise Robins at Manchester United Methodist Church in St. Louis.

Ken attended Jefferson City High School from 1941 until 1944 and went on to be a 1945 graduate of Little Rock High School in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was a 1946 graduate of Jefferson City Junior College. Ken was very athletic during his younger years with basketball and baseball. He played basketball at Jefferson City High School and Jefferson City Junior College, and he played baseball with the Jefferson City Red Birds.

He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was stationed at Tai Jon, Korea with the 89th Station Hospital during his time of service.

Ken was employed with the Missouri State Highway Patrol for thirty-eight years, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant at Troop F in Jefferson City in June of 1987.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Jefferson City and was a previous member of Manchester United Methodist Church in St. Louis. At Manchester United Methodist Church, he served on the official board of the Pastor/Parish Committee, the Worship Committee, Head Usher, President of the Methodist Men’s Assn., and was chosen Man of the Year in 1973.

While in Jefferson City, he was a volunteer at Capital Region Medical Center, which was his favorite thing to do in his later years. He was a member of Meadow Lake Acres Country Club where he served on the Board of Directors for three years and President for two years.

Survivors include: his loving wife of forty-five years, Pat Fletcher; six children, Vicki McCurry (Bruce) of Springfield, Mo., Shari Gudermuth (David) of Ballwin, Mo., Greg Fletcher (Cheryl) of Manchester, Mo., Ron Fletcher (Tuesdye) of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Robin Louise Frisella of Orlando, Florida, and Jennifer Lee Robins of Placitas, New Mexico; eleven grandchildren, Kyle, Jeff, Adam, Kristin, Wesley, Ryan, Brett, Jared, Tyler, Dalton, and Eric; and eleven great-grandchildren, Evan, Ben, Will, Jackson, Madison, Quinn, Caleb, Kelsey, Emma, Connor, and Claire; one sister, Mardelle Gensky (Henry) of Jefferson City, Mo.; and many other friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Jennie Fletcher; and his great-granddaughter, Kayla Fletcher.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a private funeral service will be conducted in the Freeman Chapel on Monday, May 4, 2020 with the Reverend Angela Madden and the Reverend Dr. David Henry officiating. Graveside services and interment will be conducted at Riverview Cemetery.

A webcast of the funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 4, 2020 for friends to view by going to his memorial page on Freeman Mortuary’s website. Friends may mail sympathy cards to the funeral home or leave online condolences to be given to his family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to First Presbyterian Church, 324 Madison Street, Jefferson City Mo. 65101.
