Obituary for Laura Lee "Lori" Mallicoat
Ms. Laura “Lori” Lee Mallicoat, age 52 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away on Tuesday, August 25, 2020 at the Boone Hospital Center after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born on July 24, 1968 in Jefferson City, Mo., the daughter of Charles Leonard Mallicoat and Sharon Kay (Kemna) Mallicoat.
A lifelong resident of the Central Missouri area, Lori was a 1986 graduate of Jefferson City High School. Lori was very athletic and extremely active. She played was the pitcher and also played second base for the Jays, as well as being a talented volleyball player. After graduation, Lori studied Graphic Arts at Nichols Career Center, and she also went to school for 2 years at the University of Central Missouri.
Lori had a very strong work ethic. She started her Real Estate career at Remax in Jefferson City as a Real Estate agent. Most recently, she was a Leasing Agent at DeVille Southwest.
Starting from a young age, Lori was very involved in Girl Scouts. She went on many trips with her friends from Scouts. After graduation, Lori stayed as involved as she could and worked for the Girl Scouts.
Lori was an animal lover and had many pets over the years. She never passed up a chance to soak up some puppy love, kitty snuggles or save a turtle by helping it cross the road. Lori especially loved her own fur babies, Linus and Bailey. Lori was never seen looking less than perfect. She always had her make-up and blingy jewelry on. She rightfully earned the nicknames “Glam Girl” and “Barbie.” As much of a fashionista as she was, she could still be found outside enjoying nature. She loved going rock hunting with her nephew, and together, they had quite the collection. Lori also liked going fishing as it reminded of her of a Father’s Day tradition she enjoyed with her dad. Lori and her nephew Sabastian loved trains. They could often be found at the Capital, with an ice-cream in hand, watching the trains pass by. Lori had a special relationship with her niece, Abby, and was in awe of her strength. This admiration for her niece encouraged her to fight even harder when it came time for her to take care of herself. She was also thrilled to have a girl to pass down a lot of her favorite things to. Lori always longed to have her nephews, Axel and Ace closer to be able to see them regularly. Even though they were separated by distance Lori still loved them very much. Lori had a way of always finding the good in all things and kept a strong and positive attitude no matter what she faced in life. She will be remembered for her big heart, her loving personality, her infectious smile, and her big brown eyes.
Survivors include: her fiancé: Danny Vaught, Sr. of Jefferson City, Mo.; her mother, Sharon Mallicoat of Jefferson City, Mo.; one brother, Randy Mallicoat (wife, Melissa) of Jefferson City, Mo., one sister, Sandy Mallicoat of Jacksonville, Fl.; three nephews, Sabastian Mallicoat, Axel Carroll, and Ace Carroll; her niece, Abigail Mallicoat; numerous loving aunts, uncles, and cousins; and her beloved fur babies, Linus and Bailey.
Lori was preceded in death by her father, Charles Leonard Mallicoat; her beloved dog, Scooby, and her cat, Zigi.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2020 at Freeman Mortuary from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM. The general public is welcome to attend the visitation while following social distancing guidelines. Please stay 6 feet apart and avoid close contact. Anyone is welcome and encouraged to wear personal masks or other personal protective equipment while in attendance.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, August 29, 2020 at 4:00 PM in the Freeman Chapel with The Reverend Frank Whitney officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held Riverview Cemetery.
A webcast of the funeral service will begin at 3:45 PM for friends and family that are not able to attend by going to her memorial page on Freeman Mortuary’s website. Friends may mail sympathy cards to the funeral home or leave condolences online to be given to her family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Jefferson City Animal Shelter.
