Obituary for Leo George Scrivner
Leo George Scrivner, 94, of New Bloomfield, went home to Jesus on Thursday, May 28, 2020, at the Missouri Veterans Home - Mexico, MO. Having the facility under Covid quarantine, he was finally able to be surrounded and touched by his loving family before his passing.
Leo was born on October 12, 1925, in Russellville, the son of George Adolph and Vinti Mae (Fahrni) Scrivner.
He attended Russellville School, completed welding school in Jefferson City, went to work in a defense plant in Oregon, and then enlisted in 1943 in the United States Navy and served as an anti-aircraft gunner on the USS Washington during World War II in the South Pacific.
Leo came home at the end of the war, having received an honorable discharge. He met the love of his life, Dora Faustine Briot and they were soon married on January 10, 1947. They have celebrated 73 wonderful years while raising six children together.
Leo had a long, varied, and successful career. He was a salesman, and later owned and operated a grocery store and service station in Russellville and later service stations in Cedar City and Kingdom City for a number of years. He transported automobiles from as far away as Florida and drove a courtesy van full time for a Mike Kehoe Ford retiring at the “young” age of 85.
Leo loved Cardinal baseball, spending time with his family, playing cards, going on RV trips across the US, and worshiping with his church family at Immanuel Baptist. He was a loving and devoted husband, dad, grandpa, and pa. Well-known for his honesty, integrity, and unstoppable work ethic, his ready smile brightened the day of all those he met. He will be forever missed!
Survivors include: his wife, Dora Scrivner; six children, Bob Scrivner (wife Betty) of Jefferson City, Lana Oney of Jefferson City, Karen Ratcliff (husband Leonard) of New Bloomfield, Rhonda Nichols (husband Charlie) of New Bloomfield, Joy Pearre (husband Bruce) of New Bloomfield, and Rick Scrivner (wife Nickie) of New Bloomfield; one sister, Amy Jones (husband Donald) of Russellville; one sister-in-law, Jeannine Scrivner Burns of Winchester, KS; 16 grandchildren along with 8 of their spouses; 21 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Leo was preceded in death by one infant son, Larry Wayne Scrivner; his parents, George and Vinti Scrivner; his father and mother in-law, whom he loved like parents, Edward and Maud Briot; three sisters, Ruby Petree, Guylda Decker, and his twin, Cleo Taylor; one brother, Donald Scrivner; one son-in-law, Arlend Oney; and former son-in-law, Larry Jones.
Funeral service will be conducted privately for the family with the Reverend Shane Crum officiating. Graveside services and interment with military honors will follow his service at Enloe Cemetery.
