Obituary for Lillian Wade

Lillian “Lil” Marie Wade, age 94, of Jefferson City, passed away peacefully Wednesday February 23, 2022, at Capital Region Medical Center surrounded by her children.

She was born on February 17, 1928, in Cedar City, Mo. a daughter of Ben Otis Baysinger and Freida Thelma Foster. She married the love of her life, Marion Gray Wade on June 20, 1946. Marion passed away on May 18, 1996, the year they would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

As a lifelong resident of the Central Missouri area, Lil attended Cedar City and Jefferson City High School.

Lil was a loving and devoted wife and mother, raising her children. She always said being a mother was wonderful, but being a Nana to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren was awesome, she was always cheering them on from the stands.

Lil was devoted in her faith and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, and was an active member of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary.

The most important thing to Lil was her family. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren. Lil was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and attended games up into her early 90’s. Lil loved to travel, especially if her destination had slot machines. She was very dedicated to her yard, and always made sure her flower garden was immaculate. Up until she was 88 years old, Lil push-mowed her lawn and made sure it was always perfectly striped. Her favorite time of the year was Christmas, because she loved giving. Lil also enjoyed Halloween because she loved to dress up and hand out candy to the neighborhood or go to the bowling alley and spend time there while in costume. Lil was the neighborhood mom and enjoyed having hotdog roasts in the backyard with her family and friends. She loved taking time to enjoy the small things in life, going on car rides, completing jigsaw puzzles and always taking time to talk with people she knew, which was practically everyone. She was also known as “Grandma Lil” to the many children she took care of in the nursery at Westgate Lanes, and known as “Momma Lil” to many of her children’s friends. She will be loved and missed by all who knew her.

Lil is survived by: her four children, Susan Lewis (Tom) of Jefferson City, Kathy Scott (David) of Jefferson City, Kim Wade of Jefferson City, Patrick Wade (Deb Battye) of Cole County; brother, Everett “Dick” Johnson of Jefferson City; grandchildren, Eric Schollmeyer, Holly Schollmeyer, Heather Wolken (Rodney), Lisa Buhr (Steve), Mike Lewis (Becca), Alicha Kingsbury, Brittany, Garrett and BJ Battye (Kimber White); great-grandchildren, Kaleb, Kameron (Emma) and Kalley Schollmeyer, Chad (Tara), Connor and Cooper Wolken, Lucas Conway, Luke, Brock, and Beau Buhr, Foster and Faye Lewis, Mikey & Haley Kingsbury; and great-great-grandchild Wolken due in September. Fannie Heeter, a friend and neighbor of 57 years.

Lil is preceded in death by: her parents; her loving husband; siblings, Betty “Beck” Taggart, Virginia “Mae” Blochberger, and Herbert “Dutch” Baysinger and one of her best friends Betty Boyd.
