Obituary for Linda Riek

Linda Nicklaus Riek, age 67, passed away Friday, June 26, 2020 at her home in Fulton, Missouri surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on April 8, 1953 in Columbus, Ohio, the daughter of Robert Thompson and Nellie Howard Nicklaus. She married James Varo Riek on June 27, 1975 in Worthington, Ohio. Over her lifetime, she resided in Ohio, Texas, and Missouri.

Linda graduated from Worthington High School in 1971 and earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology and equestrian science at Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri in 1975. A champion equestrian in her youth, she won numerous American Saddlebred horse shows. Well known for her fun-loving, bold personality, sense of humor, and outgoing nature, she seldom met a stranger. A self-employed businesswoman, Linda worked as a horse trainer and dog breeder. She loved sharing her passion for animals with others, as well as teaching children to ride and swim. Family trips to the Lake of the Ozarks and Cocoa Beach, Florida made her happy, too.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents. She leaves behind her loving husband, James Riek of Fulton, Missouri, one day short of their 45th wedding anniversary; her children, Jason and wife Nicole Riek of Warrensburg, Missouri, Jamie Gregoire and husband Josh of Youngtown, Arizona, and Joey Riek of Fulton, Missouri; two grandchildren, Jayse Riek and Jay Bates Riek; two sisters, Kathy Nicklaus of Lakeland, Florida and Carolyn Gleason of Seattle, Washington; and many other family and friends who will miss her dearly.

Services will be held privately for the family at Riverview Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Hospital

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.
