Obituary for Lucia Vest

Lucia Elizabeth Vest, age 89, of Jefferson City, Missouri, went to Heaven on September 27, 2022.

She was born on May 28, 1933 in Barksdale Field, Louisiana, the daughter of Victor Vest and Bessie (DuVall) Vest.

After graduating from Jefferson City High School in 1952, Lucia held various types of employment, eventually retiring from the Missouri State Attorney General’s office as a secretary.

She was a good friend to many, and an especially good daughter and sister. She nursed her mother and sister at home during their final illnesses. Lucia had a quick wit and was sassy at times, but she was also kind-hearted and did many things for others. She was gifted and artistic in knitting with her knitting machines, and she made hundreds of stocking hats for the students at South School. She also made afghan throws and gave them away as well as embroidered pillow cases and other items. In the last couple years, she insisted that most of her possessions be given to cousins, their friends, and the Salvation Army. Lucia was a humble person who did not seek special treatment or recognition. She was genuine and a very good woman.

Lucia is survived by: her cousin Celeste Koon (husband Richard)

Lucia is preceded in death by her parents and sisters Margaret Smith and Mary Wood.

A funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 29, 2022 at the Pavilion of Riverview Cemetery with the Reverend Doctor Stephen Buchholz officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice Compassus or the Jefferson City Animal Shelter.

Funeral arrangements are under the care of Freeman Mortuary.
