Obituary for Lucille E. Gurney

Lucille Ellen Hendrix Gurney, age 99 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at Jefferson City Manor Care Center surrounded by family.

She was born on January 21, 1920 in Deepwater, Mo, the daughter of George and Stella (Hamilton) Post. She was married on December 17, 1938 in Clinton, Mo. to Orlow Hendrix, who passed away on February 18, 1981. Together they had five children. Later, Lucille was married on July 19, 1982 in Vinita, Oklahoma to Frank Gurney, who preceded her in death on March 20, 2007.

Lucille was a member of Concord Baptist Church since moving to Jefferson City, Mo in 2007. Lucille was a homemaker for the majority of her life and enjoyed reading, and solving puzzles, both word puzzles and jigsaw types, in her free time. She also had hobbies of crocheting and piecing together quilts.

Survivors include: her children, Orlow “Joe” Hendrix (Debra) of Oak Grove, Mo., Steven Hendrix (Kathy) of Edwards, Mo., Jeffrey Hendrix (Eva Hardin) of Flower Mound, Texas, and Nancy Gordon (John) of Jefferson City, Mo.; one brother, Austin Post (Mary) of Arcadia, California; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, George and Stella Post; two husbands, Orlow Hendrix and Frank Gurney; one son, Larry Hendrix; and five siblings, Alfred Post, Leonard Post, Harry Post, Georgie Renno and Mildred Tuter.

A graveside service and interment will be conducted at 12:00 noon Monday, February 4, 2019 at the Vansant Road Cemetery, 1901 N. Vansant Road, Clinton, Mo., with the Reverend John Forsythe officiating.
