Mabel Laverne Rhoads, age 101, of Centertown, Mo, passed away Wednesday, October 19, 2022 at St. Joseph Bluffs.
She was born on September 24, 1921 to John Richard “Dick” and Addie Mae (Garnett) Crutsinger. She was married on August 15, 1941 in Jefferson City, Mo., to Robert Earl “Dusty” Rhoads.
A lifelong resident of Centertown, Mo., Mabel graduated from Centertown High School and began her employment as both a teacher’s aide and in the school cafeteria. She later worked at Snellen’s Restaurant and was the secretary at Centertown Baptist Church. Mabel wore many hats at the church including custodian, librarian, Vacation Bible School teacher and was a member of the Women’s Missionary Union.
Mabel was an exceptional seamstress and quilter. She also enjoyed gardening, traveling, camping and fishing with Dusty. Mabel volunteered in her community by working as an election judge, volunteered with the local March of Dimes, as well as other organizations.
Survivors include: daughters, Nancy Korsmeyer (Edgar) and Betty Scrivner (Bob), both of Jefferson City, Mo.; daughter-in-law, Marilyn Rhoads of Houston, Tx.; six grandchildren, Mark Rhoads (Peggy) of Houston, Tx., Alan Rhoads (Kelley) of San Antonio, Tx., Stuart Korsmeyer (Brenda) of Eldon, Mo., Gayla Saffer (Rick) of Lake St. Louis, Mo., Brad Scrivner (Dee) of Tulsa, Ok. and Lisa Glarner (Mike) of Brentwood, Mo.; ten great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren and a special niece, Lois Dean Garnett of Centertown, Mo.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband, Dusty Rhoads; son, Dick Rhoads; and five siblings, Edith Mae Garnett, Velma McCoy, Zena Shenk, Clay Crutsinger, and Glen Crutsinger.
Visitation will be held at Centertown Baptist Church from 10:00 until 11:00 am, Friday, October 28, 2022. Funeral services will follow at11:00 am with the Reverend David Ford and the Reverend Shay Roush officiating. Graveside services will be held at Centertown Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Centertown Baptist Church or to the Centertown Cemetery.
