Obituary for Mabel Thompson

Mabel Mary Thompson, age 96, passed away Sunday, June 12, 2022, at StoneBridge Oak Tree Villas in Jefferson City, Mo.

She was born November 22, 1925 in Cole County, a daughter of Henry E. Schneider and Lillie L. (Loesch) Schneider.

On May 5, 1945, in Jefferson City, Mo., Mabel was united in marriage to Henry Eugene Thompson, who preceded her in death on August 17, 1973.

She attended Russellville High School and graduated from Jefferson City High School in 1943. She attended college at Central Mo. State Teacher’s College in Warrensburg and at Lincoln University. She taught grade school for several years at Corinth School in Cole County.

She was a 4-H project leader and community leader with the Lohman 4-H Club. She worked at Chesebrough-Pond’s, when it first opened in Jefferson City, Mo., as a Quality Control Inspector. She helped her husband on the family farm. She enjoyed planting a large vegetable garden, canning and tending to her flowers.

Mabel was a member of Central Church in Jefferson City, where she had served as a Sunday school and Vacation Bible School teacher. She was also a member of the church’s Elenor Circle.

Mabel will be remembered as a strong and resilient woman who always possessed a positive attitude that could been seen through her great smile.

Survivors include: three sons, Thomas E. Thompson (Judy) of Jefferson City, Mo., Harry G. Thompson (Jana) of Lohman, Mo. and Mark A. Thompson (Pamela) of Lohman, Mo.; one daughter-in-law, Karen Thompson of Jefferson City, Mo.; one brother, Henry V. Schneider (Shirley) of Jefferson City, Mo.; eight grandchildren, Jeff Thompson (Diane) of Jefferson City, Mo., Jason Thompson (Jennifer) of Lohman, Mo., Carrie O’ Brien (David) of Wildwood, Mo., Julie Brashears (Ryan) of Webb City, Mo., Henry Thompson of Jefferson City, Mo., Courtney Gard (Scott) of Mexico, Mo., Benjamin Thompson (Tracey) of Bucklin, Mo. and Clayton Thompson of Lohman, Mo.; fourteen great-grandchildren, Luke Thompson, Alex Thompson, Nick Thompson, Rebecca Thompson (fiancé Jacob Mueller), Rachel Thompson, Leah Thompson, Parker Brashears, Hunter Brashears, Ellie Gard, Lillie Gard, Evie Gard, Caroline Thompson, Reid Thompson and Brooks Thompson.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Richard L. Thompson; three sisters, Lillie Laura Schneider, Emily Scheperle and Dorothy Barnard; three brothers, Erman Schneider, a World War II casualty, Wesley Schneider and LeRoy Schneider.

Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 17, 2022 at Central Church.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 17, 2022 at Central Church with Reverend Dr. Jason Abbott officiating. Graveside service and interment will be held at Riverview Cemetery.
