Madison “Maddie” Taylor Scott, age 19, of Jefferson City Mo., passed away Monday, October 15, 2018 in St. Charles, Mo.

Maddie was born on March 15, 1999 in Columbia, Mo., the daughter of Wade Adams Scott and Kay (Rackers) Scott.

Growing up in Jefferson City, Mo., Maddie was a 2017 graduate of Helias High School and was currently a sophomore at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Mo., majoring in Spanish, Advertising and Strategic Communications with a minor in Social Welfare. She was a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority.

Maddie held many different jobs while attending school and was not afraid of hard work. She sold cutlery for Cutco receiving a Push Period Excellence award for personal sales exceeding $12,500 within fifteen days. In addition, Maddie was passionate about her work for the Coalition for Life in St. Louis, Mo. While in high school, she worked as a customer service representative for Hy-Vee, a waitress at Viet’s restaurant, and in the nursery at the First United Methodist Church.

She was on the Honor Roll and a National Honor Society member while attending Helias High School. In addition to her academic accomplishments, Maddie participated in many community and leadership activities. She volunteered and was involved with Habitat for Humanity, Rotary Youth Leadership Award Academy, Head Start Daycare, Salvation Army, Zonta Club, Life Runners, the International Club and played volleyball. She was named Miss Capital City in a pageant sponsored by Lindenwood University resulting in an academic grant. She was also the recipient of a scholarship from the Jefferson City West Rotary.

Maddie enjoyed reading, babysitting and spending time with her family. Some of her favorite memories were of summer visits to the Lake of the Ozarks. She would never forget experiencing Disney World with her mom. Maddie had a true love for animals, especially cats, and always looked forward to visiting the Jefferson City Animal Shelter with her dad.

Survivors include: her mother, Kay Rackers Scott of Jefferson City; her father, Wade Scott and Lori Pendleton of Jefferson City; maternal grandmother, Clara Rackers of Jefferson City; her aunts and uncles, Diane Schlotz (Scott) of Dardenne Prairie, Mo., Sue Schlotz (Troy) of Wardsville, Mo., Shana Crane (Greg) of O’Fallon, Mo., Warren Scott of Jefferson City and Geoff Scott of Manila, Philippines; cousins, Brandon Scott, Jared Scott, Adria Gilstrap (Andrew), Abby Schlotz, Brandon Schlotz, Kelsi Schlotz, Kyle Schlotz, Ella Crane, Jack Crane, Ainsley Gilstrap, Jagger Gilstrap and Wrenn Schlotz; honorary cousins, Hunter and Hadley Pendleton; and many friends that will miss her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Anita and Clyde Scott; her maternal grandfather, Donald Rackers; and an uncle, Brad Rackers.

Visitation will be held at Freeman Mortuary from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Sunday, October 21, 2018. A prayer and remembrance service will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. in the Freeman Chapel immediately before her visitation.

Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 22, 2018 at Immaculate Conception Church with the Reverend Don Antweiler officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held at Resurrection Cemetery.
