Obituary for Marilea Stadler

Marilea Stadler, age 93 years, of Jefferson City, Mo. passed away Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at Summit Villa in Holts Summit.

She was born on November 20, 1927 in Los Angeles, California to Edgar B. and William Caroline (Preston) Stephens. Marilea lost her parents at a very young age and was lovingly raised by her devoted Aunt and Uncle, Joe and Maude Evans.

She was a 1945 graduate of Jefferson City High School. She worked with the Missouri Public Service Commission and in 1975, Marilea began her career in the Cole County court system as a court reporter for circuit court, Division I. She had the opportunity to report on nearly every kind of judicial and legal proceeding, gaining her vast knowledge on the system as a whole. She was a dedicated employee, often remaining after the work day to transcribe pages of transcripts to be preserved in legal volumes for years to come.

Marilea enjoyed playing cards and often met up with her friend group to play bridge. She was an avid reader and loved getting caught up in a good book or television series. Marilea loved football and in her younger years, held regular tickets to Missouri University football games. She played on a bowling league, perfected her famous rum cake and had a soft spot for animals, especially her dog. She kept her mind sharp by religiously watching Jeopardy and challenging herself to answer the questions and doing crossword puzzles. She loved feeling the sand between her toes on a beach and made numerous trips to Florida to visit the ocean. She and her daughter also traveled to Europe and made countless memories on that adventure. Marilea was an intelligent, stylish and hardworking woman. She loved her family and was most relaxed with a cold beer or Schulte’s donut in hand.

Survivors include: her daughter, Candace Weller of Jefferson City, Mo.; two grandsons, Michael Prenger (wife, Cheryl) of Wentzville, Mo. and Shawn Prenger (wife, Julie) of Washington, Mo.; and three great grandchildren, Braden, Carter and Abigail.

She was preceded in death by her biological parents and her aunt and uncle who took on the role of parents.

Private family services will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.
