Obituary for Mark Chick

Mark Kelly Chick, age 59, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Monday, November, 14, 2022. Mark passed away from natural causes surrounded by nature on his final deer hunt.

He was born on February 16, 1963 in Jefferson City, Mo., the youngest son of Curtis Edward and Bernice Katherine (Temmen) Chick, Sr. Mark was one of six children born to this couple and he deeply loved his large family. Mark honored his parents and their love and dedication when he took on the role of caregiver to his mother for the past several years.

A lifelong resident of Jefferson City, Mark attended Helias High School. Following his education, he was accepted into the Sheet Metal Workers Apprenticeship Program. Through the years, Mark worked as an independent contractor laying flooring until disability forced his retirement.

Mark was an outdoorsman, especially enjoying hunting and fishing. He loved to bring his grandchildren along to share his passion for the outdoors and instill a love for nature in them as well. Mark, alongside his son-in-law and other friends, took many trips to the Meramec River and Bennet Springs in search of good trout fishing. He had a green thumb, cultivating not only a thriving vegetable garden each year but an impressive crop of various mushrooms. Mark was an outgoing and energetic man who could hold a conversation with anyone. Above all, Mark loved his family and was incredibly proud of his grandkids. He wore the title of “Pops” with honor. His family will remember him as their one of a kind, loving, big hearted and protective father, son, brother and “Pops”.

Survivors include: his daughter, Kelly Twyman (Nathan) of Jefferson City, Mo.; his loving mother, Bernice Chick; five siblings, Curtis Chick, Jr. (Brenda), Mike Chick (Linda), Sheila McCarthy (John), Doug Chick (Debbie), Jean Hopkins (Jim); five grandchildren, Breanna, Hayli, Kourtlyn, Brady, and Carter; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Curtis Chick, Sr.; his stepson, Keith Alan Rucker; and two nieces, Shelly Chick and Kristen Chick.

A prayer service will be conducted at 3:15 p.m. in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Jeremy Secrist.

To Celebrate Mark’s outgoing nature, a visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 22, 2022.
