Obituary for Mark Freeman
Mark D. Freeman, age 51, passed away Thursday, June 25, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born on September 23, 1968 in Sioux City, Ia. the son of Michael and Karen (May) Freeman.
Mark graduated from Park Rapids High School and relocated to Jefferson City, Mo. in 1991.
He was the manager at Zesto’s Drive-In on Broadway and Highway 50 for nearly 30 years before it closed. Mark then went on to be the assistant manager of the deli department at Schnuck’s Grocery Store.
Mark would tell you he was an active member of the organization known as “life”. He invested in it, spent a lot of time learning about it, and he was a proud member of the everchanging day to day organization of “life”.
As demonstrated in his career, he loved to cook and all things culinary. In his free time, you could find Mark watching a sports game, especially Cardinal’s baseball. But most of all, he enjoyed any time spent with his family. Mark would tell you that he loved to travel inside his own community by meeting new people. He loved his home and made it a place of comfort not only for himself but for others who would drop by. Family and friends were always his priority. Mark will be remembered most for his caring nature; being a soft place to land for those who needed it, always willing to listen, and truly honest. He could always be counted on to tell you how it really was.
Survivors include: his parents, Mike and Karen Freeman of Jefferson City, Mo.; his siblings, Mellisa Berger and husband Kevin of Jefferson City, Mo., Ronald Freeman of Jefferson City, Mo., and Shane Freeman of Washington State; nieces and nephews, Ema Berger of Jefferson City, Mo., Abigail Freeman of Arlington, Wa., Brice Freeman and wife Laila of Sioux City, Ia., and Austin Freeman of Glendale, Co.; and many other family and friends who will miss him dearly.
Mark was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jim and Francis Freeman, and William and Lorna May; his great-grandparents, Earl and Ida Ball, his aunts and uncles, Bill Freeman, Bob Freeman, Jim Freeman, Patty Coney, Don and Joanne May, Betty Teigen, Marylin and Ben Pickett, Billy and Marty Cox, and Carol May.
Visitation will be held at Freeman Mortuary from 4:00 until 6:00pm Tuesday, June 30, 2020 with a Celebration of Life following at 6:00 pm in the Freeman Chapel. The public is welcome to attend while following social distancing guidelines.
A webcast of the service will begin at 6:00 pm Tuesday for friends that are not able to attend by going to his memorial page on Freeman Mortuary’s website.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Goldschmidt Cancer Center or Hospice Compassus.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.
