Obituary for Martha Butler

Mrs. Martha Jane Lucille Butler, age 86, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away peacefully Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at Villa Marie Nursing Home.

Martha was born on September 5,1935 in Freeburg, Mo., the daughter of John and Matilda (Schulte) Ackfeld. She was married on May 20,1961 in Freeburg, Mo. to Earl Raymond Butler who preceded her in death on March 1, 1997.

Martha attended Freeburg schools including Freeburg High School for two years until it closed in 1951 and was a 1953 graduate of Fatima High School.

Martha worked for the Missouri Department of Revenue as a clerk from the late 1950s until 1963 when her first son Tom was born. She had a passion for taking care of her family and truly loved and cherished her role as a homemaker. She loved all of the time and memories she made with her family. Her granddaughter, Kacy Jane, was the light of her life. Martha always had a twinkle in her eye and a smile on her face when she was talking about and spending time with her. When her sons were young, she spent a lot of time fishing at local lakes and rivers especially the Gasconade River near Freeburg as it was only a few miles from her childhood home. In her younger years, she also loved to entertain and made a special occasion out of all birthdays, holidays and loved to gather for BBQ’s.

Martha was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jefferson City for over 60 years and was dedicated to her faith. Martha had a larger-than-life heart and loved animals, especially dogs.

Survivors include: two sons, Tom Butler (wife, Stacy Jo) of Jefferson City, Mo., and John Butler of Jefferson City, Mo.; and one granddaughter, Kacy Jane Butler.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Earl; two brothers, Virgil Ackfeld and John H. Ackfeld; and one sister, Mary Ann Stegeman.
