Obituary for Marvin Horak

Marvin Henry Horak, age 94, of Jefferson City, Mo. passed away Friday, April 22, 2022 at the Capital Region Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.

Marvin was born on December 14, 1927 at home in Cole County, near Lohman, Mo. the son of the late William “Bill” and Bertha Eva (Knernschield) Horak. He was married on June 12, 1960 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Honey Creek, Mo. to Elsa Ann Beck.

He served his country in the United States Army at Richland, Wa. during World War II.

When he was honorably discharged, he and his brother Elmer purchased a semi-trailer and hauled fresh and frozen foods coast to coast. Later, Marvin became a realtor for over 20 years in the central Missouri area.

During his retirement, he and Elsa enjoyed traveling. Some of his favorite trips were to Alaska and the National Parks where he loved to hike and view all of God’s nature. He also enjoyed playing pinnacle with family and friends.

Marvin possessed a strong faith and loved the Lord. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lohman where he served on the church counsel. In 1963 he became a member at Trinity Lutheran Church in Jefferson City and helped write the by-laws and constitution of the church. He helped establish Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Jefferson City and Peace Lutheran Church in Holts Summit.

Survivors include: his loving wife of 62 years, Elsa Horak; three children, Keith Horak of Columbia, Mo., Curtis Horak (wife Janice) of Southlake, Tx. and Janice DuChanois (husband Lee) of Fayetteville, Ark.; two sisters, Lorene Heet of Jefferson City, Mo. and Velma Jacobs of Lohman, Mo.; six grandchildren, Erin Horak, Molly Horak (husband Jake Johnson), Ryan DuChanois (wife Hannah), Kristi DuChanois, Austin Horak and Will Horak; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Elmer Horak and his wife, Geneva; and two brothers-in-law, Harold Heet and Henry Jacobs.

Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at Trinity Lutheran Church.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at Trinity Lutheran Church with the Reverend Jesse Schlie and the Reverend Sam Powell officiating. Graveside services with military honors will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Cemetery in Lohman, Mo.
