Obituary for Mary Louise Buchanan

Mary Louise Buchanan, age 64, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 6, 2022 at St. Luke’s Hospice House in Kansas City, Mo. with her loving family by her side.

Mary was born on January 27, 1958 in Okolona, Ms., the daughter of Joe Lee and Mary Frances (Clark) Buchanan.

Mary went to beauty school and worked as a stylist in your younger years. Most notably, she worked for many years as a bus driver for Headstart. She loved the kids, and looked forward to seeing them each day.

Mary had an immeasurable amount of love for people, especially her family. She was “everyone’s mom” and she glad to take on that role for anyone who needed her. She was always straight forward, honest, and a good judge of character. Mary enjoyed playing cards and recently discovered a love for bingo on her tablet. She was a talented cook and known for her cheesecake and potato salad among many other recipes. She was truly the matriarch of her family and brought everyone together. Mary was quick to remind you how important family truly was. She did many things throughout her life, but her favorite was being “Granny” to her grandkids. She never missed a chance to spoil them. Mary was a helpful, woman who came equipped with heartfelt advice. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Survivors include: six children, Kelleana Jackson, Monica Buchanan, Veronica Buchanan, George Roberson, Tressie Roberson, and Martina Henderson all of Jefferson City, Mo.; ten siblings, Joe Buchanan, Larry Buchanan, Jamie Buchanan, Melvin Ray, Carolyn Ray, Michelle Ray, Lamont Ray (wife, Dena), Victoria Buchanan, Mischelle Macon and Eugene Bailey; seven grandchildren, Yreeka Livingston, KIyana Jackson, Ra-Hiem Scott, Keylien Scott, Nehemiah Roberson, JhaQuan Henderson, and Jammari Roberson; one great-grandchild, Jayleeona Livingston; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; one grandson, Keygan Roberson; and four siblings, Chris Buchanan, Tommie Ray, Willie Ray, and Gloria Eggleston.

Private funeral services will be held for the family at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Mary Buchanan Memorial Fund.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.
