Obituary for Mary "DB" Feind

Mrs. Mary Dolores “DB” Feind, 82, of Eugene, MO, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 11, 2022 at Villa Marie.

She was born on June 14, 1939 in Lexington, VA to Dr. Kenneth and Dolly (Lambert) Byrne. She was married on August 14, 1959 in Powhatan, WV to 2LT William Joseph Feind, USMC.
DB graduated from Welch High School in WV and went on to receive her degree from Stephens College in Columbia, MO. It was during her time in Columbia, that she met the love of her life, Bill. DB and Bill started their lives together at Marine Corps Schools Quantico, VA.

Upon retirement and relocating to Missouri in 1984, DB and Bill became members of Our Lady of Snows Catholic Church. A talented quilter, she was the coordinator for the Missouri Home of the Brave Quilt Project - where quilts were made for families of deceased veterans. She also taught quilting and sewing classes through the years. Mary passed on her love for quilting to both her children and grandchildren, and made sure they all had quilts and keepsakes.

DB enjoyed going on various vacations and excursions with her family, including hiking on the Appalachian Trail, Scout trips, and a recent cruise on the Rhine River celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary. She loved cooking and hosting family gatherings and maintained a beautiful garden of flowers for everyone to enjoy. Though her family was spread all over, she made it a point to talk to them often, make memories, and let them know she loved them. She especially looked forward to “Granny Camp” and doing other fun activities with her beloved grandchildren. She volunteered her time and talents to many activities, making pies, and knitting baby hats and blankets. She was also an RCIA volunteer and a Girl Scout leader.

Survivors include: her loving husband of 62 years, LtCol Bill Feind, USMC (Ret), of Eugene; four children, Kenneth Feind (Sandra) of Garner, NC; Anne “Cathy” Feind of Raleigh, NC; David Feind (Shirley Walls) of Porirua, New Zealand; and LtCol Nancy Staats, USAF (Ret) (Col Steve USAF (Ret)) of Fairfax, VA; one sister, Judy Gnade (Bill) of Fallston Maryland; and two grandchildren, Alexa Staats and Andrew Staats.

DB was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, James Byrne.

Visitation will be held next Saturday, April 23, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church in Mary’s Home. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. with the Reverend Alexius Ekka officiating.

Private graveside services will be held at the Quantico National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Feind Family Scholarship Fund at Helias High School (Jefferson City, MO) or Our Lady of the Snows School (Mary’s Home, MO).

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.
