Obituary

Mary Jo Holm, age 67 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Wednesday, February 26, 2020, at her home.

Mary Jo was born on July 27, 1952 in Chanute, Ks. the daughter of Roy and Sylvia (Holme) McQuin.

She grew up in Minnesota and graduated from Burnsville High School in Burnsville Mn. She attended college for a couple years in Minneapolis and later moved to Jefferson City in 1985.

Mary Jo possessed a great work ethic and worked hard to support her children. She was employed with various companies in Jefferson City and especially enjoyed her work as a waitress, the bakery at Gerbes and the Checker Cab Company. She loved meeting people through her work at the cab company and many will remember her as “Mary Jo, the dispatcher from the Checker Cab Company”.

Mary Jo had a caring heart always supported the A.S.P.C.A., the American Red Cross, many Veterans Associations and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Mary Jo silently touched many lives with her nurturing personality. She also had a wonderful sense of humor and would go up to a complete stranger and tell them a joke to brighten their day. It may have been the grocery store, the bank or a gas station. Her favorite jokes were usually inappropriate but always brought a smile. Mary Jo also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, reading and cross stitching. She will always be known for her big heart, giving nature and approachable demeanor. The old saying “she never met a stranger” was absolutely true. She greeted all with a smile and was willing to do anything for others.

Survivors include: three children, Gareth Holm, Amanda Beaumaster and Stacie Beaumaster, all of Jefferson City, Mo.; her father, Roy McQuin of Burnsville, Mn.; three siblings, Kristine (Rick) Cassar, Donnie (Kathy) Burton and Kay Edwards; five grandchildren, Terry Barrick Jr., Jonathan Schnur, Brittani Barrick, Kailee Schnur and Landon Beaumaster. Mary Jo was cherished by all who knew her and will be greatly missed by her loving family.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Sylvia McQuin; one sister, Mary Jane Knuth; and one brother, Larry Burton.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Mary Jo Holm Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 95, Jefferson City, Mo. 65102.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.

We have all experienced tremendous personal loss this week, and my heart goes out to Staci, Mandy, and Gareth. For me, I have lost the only person in the world who knew me intimately since I was a little girl and the only person with whom I could share and reminisce about the details of our life growing up. Only she could understand me and our relationship in a way that would be impossible for anyone else. A part of my heart is gone, as the bond we had will never be duplicated with anyone else. It will take me a long time to painfully digest the fact that I just can't call her up anytime for one of our deep discussions!
