Obituary for Michael Verslues

Michael Lee Verslues, age 63, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Monday, September 12, 2022.

He was born on July 20, 1959 in Jefferson City, Mo., the son of Stanley August and Laurine Mary (Niekamp) Verslues

Mike attended Blair Oaks High School where he received his high school diploma.

For seven years, he worked for the Missouri Department of Conservation, and then was employed by the Carpenter’s Local Post 945 serving as Foreman on various commercial and heavy highway Carpentry projects.

Being an avid outdoorsman, Mike spent a majority of his time in nature, whether it was working on the farm or fishing in the Osage and Missouri Rivers. Being out in a rural area, he had the opportunity to accumulate a collection of arrowheads, and enjoyed the task of hunting for them with his kids. Mike enjoyed golfing, playing horseshoes and slow pitch softball with his friends in his younger years. He was a fan of St. Louis Cardinals baseball and KC Chief’s football, always listening to games on the radio.

Mike especially cherished the times he spent with his children and grandchildren. He loved taking them out on the farm to participate in many different activities including tractor and dune buggy rides around the farm. He appreciated being able to have long conversations with his kids in their adulthood and could talk for hours about topics that piqued his interest. Mike was a reserved man who worked hard and loved his family and will be missed by all who knew him.

Mike is survived by: his four children, Travis Verslues (Teryn) of Jefferson City, Mo., Nathan Verslues (Jamie) of Jefferson City, Mo., Brian Verslues (Ashley) of Monett, Mo., Stacie Frank (Matt) of Linn, Mo.; parents, Stanley and Laurine Verslues; siblings, Ernie Verslues (Jan), Wanda Borman (Mark), Barb Wilbers (Tim), Les Verslues (Gina), Stan Verslues Jr., Joyce Bexten (Tim); and 14 amazing grandchildren.

Michael is preceded in death by his grandparents.

A celebration of life for Michael will be held at the Wardsville Lions Club, Saturday, October 1, 2022 from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to a charity of the donor’s choice.
