Obituary for Misty D. Wheeler

Ms. Misty Dawn Wheeler, age 48 of Camdenton, Mo., passed away on May 14, 2023, at SSM St. Mary’s Hospital.

She was born to the late John Robert II and Diana Gayle (Bolling) Wheeler in Jackson County, Mo.

Misty, a lifelong resident of the Kansas City area, found herself under the care of her grandmother who helped raise her. Despite being born with cerebral palsy, Misty refused to let her challenges hinder her progress. Her nonverbal condition prevented her from attending school or pursuing employment, but it never dampened her spirit. In 2021, the decision was made to move to Camdenton to be closer to her mother and brother. Settling into the welcoming community of Windsor Estates, Misty found comfort and joy in the company of her friends while receiving the care she required.

Misty's love for colors was evident, with red and purple capturing her attention, but it was pink that held a special place in her heart. This vibrant hue reminded her of Minnie Mouse, her cherished Disney character. Alongside her passion for music, Misty embraced a diverse taste, finding joy in listening to country songs despite not considering herself a typical country music fan. Her enthusiasm peaked when her brother, Max, visited and treated her to his own rap performances.

Artistry flowed through Misty's veins, with her creative personality shining through. She often indulged in color-by-number pictures, eagerly sharing them with friends and family. Uno, a beloved card game, held a special spot among Misty's favorites, showcasing her impressive skills. As a child of the digital era, Misty was never without her phone, engaging in frequent texting. She possessed a knack for using emojis to convey her emotions; for instance, when upset with her brother, she playfully sent him a dog and house emoji, ensuring he understood he was in the "doghouse." Her quick wit and humor will be sorely missed.

Despite the challenges life presented and the visible presence of medical devices, Misty's inherent humanity remained intact. Spending even a moment with her left a lasting impact, inspiring others to strive for personal growth. She radiated light in every room, her eyes twinkling with warmth and compassion.

Misty leaves behind her loving brothers, Max Wheeler of Camdenton, Mo., and John Wheeler of Overland Park, Ks.; niece, Crystal Wheeler; cousin, Daisy Bolling; two aunts, Leanne Gigger and Darlene Bolling; numerous other loving relatives and a host of friends.

She was reunited in Heaven with her parents and uncles, Clifford Bolling and Steve Bolling.

A celebration of Misty’s life will be held at a later date.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.
