Obituary for Patricia Diane "Pat" Perkins (Reeder)

Patricia Diane (Reeder) Perkins, age 71, of Jefferson City, Missouri, passed away Thursday, May 26, 2022, at San Juan Regional Medical Center in Farmington, New Mexico, surrounded by family.

Pat was born on August 7, 1950, in St. Louis, Mo., the daughter of Norman Roscoe Reeder and Evelyn Doris (Hoyt) Reeder.

A resident of the Jefferson City area since 1977, Pat was a 1968 graduate of Hazelwood High School in the St. Louis area. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Musical Arts and Piano Pedagogy from Oklahoma Baptist University in 1972, and a master’s degree of Education from the University of Missouri in 1974. She worked as a school teacher and piano teacher in Dallas, Texas before going on to earn her Juris Doctorate from the University of Missouri School of Law in 1979.

She practiced law in Jefferson City beginning in1980 at the State Auditor’s Office and then the Missouri Attorney General’s Office. She was appointed by Governor Ashcroft to the Public Service Commission in 1991, and served until 1995. She worked as an attorney for the state and in private practice for several years. After retiring, she provided pro bono legal services through the Samaritan Center. She was recognized by the Missouri Bar for her pro bono work, as a recipient of the 2021 Pro Bono Publico Award.

Pat was an active member and deacon of First Baptist Church, and thoroughly enjoyed serving as an organist and pianist at the church. She was also pianist for many other ensembles and musicians. Music and playing the piano were her passion, and great delight in life. Pat also enjoyed baking exceedingly complex dessert dishes, listening to blues and jazz music, attending live musical performances, traveling with friends and family, and watching the St. Louis Cardinals play baseball. But most of all, she adored spending time with her children and grandchildren whom she loved very much. Her deep faith and trust in the Lord gives her family tremendous peace now.

Survivors include: her daughter, Hilary Bybee and husband Kyle of Kansas City, Mo; her daughter, Courtney Betts and husband Chris of Olathe, Ks; and her grandchildren, George Bybee, Addison Betts, Evelyn Bybee, Boomer Betts, and Norah Bybee. She is also survived by her brother, Robert (Bob) Reeder and wife Linda, and her sister, Margaret (Peggy) Reeder.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Norman and Evelyn Reeder.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 11, 2022 at First Baptist Church in Jefferson City, Mo. from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
