Obituary for Patrick R. Schaffer

Mr. Patrick R. “Pat” “Sonny” Schaffer, age 69, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away peacefully Monday, January 31, 2022 at River City Nursing and Rehab.

Pat was born on March 26, 1952 in Meta, Mo., the son of John Joseph and Mathilda Bertha (Scheulen) Schaffer. He was married on July 21, 2000 in Osage Bend, Mo. to Audie (Welch) Hawkins and she preceded him in death on November 8, 2020.

A lifelong resident of the central Missouri area, Pat was a 1970 graduate of Jefferson City High School.

Pat always possessed a strong work ethic so after high school, he began his lifelong profession as a carpenter. He enjoyed his career in the construction industry that spanned over 45 years. He began his career working with Luebbert and Rothove Construction Company, then went to work for Schaefer Brothers, and later retired from Dean Holtmeyer Construction when he began to struggle with ill health. He truly loved all the people he worked with through the years and through those relationships is where he gained another nickname, “Squeak.”

Pat was raised in the catholic faith and a longtime member of St. Stanislaus Church. He was also a proud member of the National Rifle Association.

He was a talented woodworker and often built furniture, mirrors, and frames for family and friends. Pat enjoyed being outdoors and could often be found hunting and fishing throughout central Missouri. He looked forward to time spent with family by cheering for the St. Louis Cardinals, playing a game of pitch or throwing horseshoes. Many of those memories were made even more memorable due to his unique sense of humor that could leave family members laughing or shaking their heads.

Survivors include: two children, Clarence Frederick Schaffer (Brandie Jensen Bryant) of Jackson, Mo., and Jamie Lynn Mitchell (Barrett) of Desloge, Mo.; three siblings, Hilda Schulte of Osage Bend, Mo., Patricia Kloeppel of Wardsville, Mo., and Marshall Schaffer (Barbara) of Holts Summit, Mo., five grandchildren, Sierra Schaffer, Kami Schaffer, Caleb Schaffer, Samuel Mitchell, and Louis Mitchell; and several nieces and nephews.

Pat was preceded in death by his parents; infant brothers, David and Alphonse Schaffer; and brothers-in-law, Leonard Schulte and Anthony Kloeppel.
