Obituary for Patty Jean Scarlett

Mrs. Patty Jean Scarlett, age 88, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at St. Joseph Bluffs.

Patty was born on December 15, 1932 in Springfield, Mo., the daughter of Charles and Annalee (Franklin) Harper. She was married on June 8, 1955 in Springfield, Mo. to Jerrold G. Scarlett.

Patty was a graduate of Republic High School. She then graduated cum laude from Southwest Missouri State University with a double major in Music and Business.

Patty was first chair Oboe in both the Springfield and Jefferson City Symphonies. She had a strong faith and was a long-time member of the First Presbyterian Church.

Patty was an extremely talented musician. She shared her passion for music by teaching oboe lessons out of her home for over 50 years. After moving to Jefferson City in 1983, Patty worked as an accountant for the Missouri Banker Association, where she worked for 10 years before retiring. Later she did accounting for her husband’s architectural business.

When her children were young, the family enjoyed taking many camping trips to their favorite destination, Logger’s Lake, near Salem, Mo. She also enjoyed going and camping at the beach and around Mo. Most of all, Patty loved her family and the memories she made with them. She will be greatly missed by all.

Survivors include: her loving husband of 65 years, Jerrold; children, Christine Kittrell (Kyle) of Jefferson City, MO. and Todd Scarlett (Nancy) of Charlotte, NC.; brother, Charles “Uncle Bill” Harper (Patricia) of Atlanta, Ga.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Patty was preceded in death by: her parents; and infant daughter, Lynn Ann Scarlett.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.
