Pauline Helen Markway, age 88, of Wardsville, MO. passed away April 26, 2020, at Jefferson City Manor Care.

She was born on August 16, 1931, in Jefferson City, MO., the daughter of John and Helena (Veit) Englert. She was married on November 27, 1952, in Jefferson City to Lawrence Markway who preceded her in death August 30, 2012.

A lifelong resident of the Central Missouri area, she graduated from Jefferson City High School in 1949.

Pauline was proud to have worked at Communique for several years in addition to working beside her husband on their family farm. For many years they harvested row cops and managed herds of cattle and hogs in Wardsville and in the Missouri river bottoms. She was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Wardsville.

In addition to being a lifelong farmer she was an avid planter of trees, and with the help of her two sons was able to keep the property looking beautiful. She was known for her master skills of making strawberry jam and angel food cakes; she loved cooking for her family. Pauline’s memory will carry on through the many beautiful quilts she created throughout the years, but most of all she will be remembered for being a loving and devoted grandmother.

Survivors include: her two sons, Phillip Markway and wife Vanessa of Wardsville, and Jeff Markway and wife Jennifer of Holts Summit; five grandchildren, Amber Scheidt and husband Lucas, Curtis Markway, Anna Markway, Benjamin Markway, and Catherine Pauline Markway; one great-grandson, Everett Tyler Scheidt, and many relatives and friends.

Pauline was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lawrence, five sisters, and three brothers.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a private service will be held with entombment at the Mausoleum of St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Wardsville.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice Compassus, 600 Monroe St. Ste 100, Jefferson City, MO 65101.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I was reminded that your mom drove me to my first real job in Jefferson City. She was such a kind lady.

So sorry for your loss Philip and Jeff... It's been many years since I saw you all, but I have so many memories of your mom and dad when I was little - and how HAPPY they were when you boys were born! I also can remember well Aunt Pauline's Strawberry Jam - it was the best I ever had. (((Hugs))) Teddi Heath Emmons Brace
