Obituary for Raymond Lister

Mr. Raymond P. Lister, 82, of Lohman, Mo., passed away Sunday, January 5, 2020 at the Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg.

He was born on March 23, 1937 in Bexar County, Texas a son of Raymond P. Lister, Sr. and Lucille Cabeldue. He was married on April 23, 1960 in Essex, Mo. to Mary Virginia Brinson.

After graduating high school, Ray served in the United States Air Force (1956-1960) and also received training in HVAC. He accredits this training to his lifelong career in HVAC, working with Harold G. Butzer, Inc. for 19 years and starting his own company, Raymond P. Lister, Inc., which he owned and operated for 25 years, retiring in 1999.

Ray was an active 50-year member of First Christian Church where he served as property chairman, deacon and Youth Group Sponsor. This included ski trips to Colorado and countless hours cutting wood to raise funds for the Youth activities. He also served as past president of the Russellville School Board, and as the first president of the Lohman Lions Club.

Ray enjoyed many pastimes - in his early life he enjoyed trout fishing, family camping, and hunting. Later in life he and Virginia enjoyed international travel and cruises with Classic Club. Ray & Virginia spent a memorable summer camping in Alaska with friends and a favorite trip was rafting down the Colorado river (twice) with family and church friends. After retirement, Ray joined Society for the Preservation of Old Mills and much of his time was devoted to attending Mill conventions across the US and Canada. Perhaps his favorite hobby was giving tours of the Lohman Mill and running his Steam Engine Tractor.

Survivors include: his wife of almost 60 years, Virginia Lister of Lohman; children, Rebecca Robinson (Lance) of Lexington, SC and Michael Lister (Kelly) of Lohman; brothers, Curtis Hillis (Chris) of Dexter, MO, Danny Hillis of Essex, MO and Bruce Hillis (Lynne) of Mexico, MO; grandchildren, Bari Robinson, Spencer Robinson, Michael (Mic) Lister and Tabitha Andrews; and great-grandchildren, Zander, Jalyn and Riley.
