Obituary for Richard "Steve" Dennis

Richard Steven “Steve” Dennis, Sr., age 60, of California Mo., passed away on August, 24, 2022.

He was born on August 23, 1962 in Jefferson City, Mo., the son of Richard H. Dennis and Arlene Elizabeth Locke. He was married to Kim Dennis for 30 years and she survives.

Steve was a lifelong resident of the Central Missouri area and attended Jefferson City High School.

Steve was known for his great work ethic and was a master floor installer. He specialized in custom ceramic tiling for over 37 years, a craft he perfected due to his creativity, original thought and impeccable attention to detail. He most recently enjoyed car detailing for which he also had an amazing strength.

Steve was a true patriot who served in the national guard where he specialized as a UH-1 Huey helicopter mechanic, a job that consisted of removing and installing aircraft subsystem such as engines, rotors, gearboxes, transmissions and mechanical flight controls.

A passionate outdoorsman he loved hunting and fishing and relaxing at “the cabin”. He loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren and had a special place in his heart for his grandpups. Steve had a deep interest in cars and to instill this love in his grandsons, he often greeted them with a new hot wheel when they saw each other. Steve worked hard to create an oasis for himself and family at his home. He named this oasis his backyard tiki bar where he was known for his famous barbeque pork steaks. He had a knack for seeing the potential in all things and used this vision to refurbish many things and create something new from something old or forgotten. As a man of strong faith, he loved attending St. Martins Catholic Church.

Survivors include: his children, Richard Dennis, Jr. “RD” of Jefferson City, Mo., Sheila Riley (James) of Corpus Christi, Tx., Millayna “Milly” Hays (Richard) of Jefferson City, Mo., and Carli Dennis (Bradley Richter) of California, Mo.; sister, Dawn Jones (Dewey) of Holts Summit, Mo.; grandchildren, Richard Dylan Hays, Jack Anthony David Hays and one on the way, Ezra Quinn Riley.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Kelly Dennis; his mother-in-law, Janice Lehman and father-in-law, Sylvester Lehman for whom he had an immeasurable amount of love and respect.
