Obituary for Richard C. Ferguson

Richard Charles Ferguson, age 83, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Monday, October 2, 2023, at Oak Tree Villas.

He was born on July 17, 1940, in Jefferson City, Mo., the son of the late James S. and Patti (Darby) Ferguson. He was married on July 25, 1959, in New Bloomfield, Mo., to Reva Jo Brooks, who survives.

A lifelong resident of the central Missouri area, Richard was a 1958 graduate of New Bloomfield High School.

He was a longtime member of Teamsters Local 833, having worked for several local freight companies and retiring from ABF Freight Systems in May of 1999.

He was a member of the New Bloomfield Masonic Lodge #60 where he served as Master twice. He was a past member of the New Bloomfield Eastern Star, where he also served twice as Worthy Patron. Richard served as the president of the New Bloomfield Lions Club and was a member of the Board of Education in his community.

Richard possessed a strong faith and an unwavering devotion to God. He was a deacon and Sunday School teacher for several years at Dry Fork Baptist Church in Guthrie, Mo. He was currently a member of Union Hill Baptist Church in Holts Summit, Mo.

Richard found great joy in fishing, family beach vacations, and was an avid fan of Cardinals baseball. What truly defined his life, however, was his enduring love story, as he was blessed to be married to the love of his life for an incredible 64 years and the memories they created with family.

Survivors include: his loving wife, Reva Ferguson; son, Jeffrey Ferguson of Columbia, Mo.; daughter, Rhonda Anderson of Jefferson City, Mo.; two brothers, Donald Ferguson (Linda) of Jefferson City, Mo. and David Ferguson (Norma) of Camdenton Mo.; one sister, Debra Hutton (Randy) of Jefferson City, Mo.; four grandchildren, Trenton Preneston, Erin Peneston, Katelyn Peneston, and Brandon Ferguson; and four great-grandchildren, Olivia, Noah, Addison and Shiloh and one more great-grandchild expected in the coming months.

Richard is preceded in death by his parents, James and Patti Ferguson.

A private memorial service will be held at a later time.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Union Hill Baptist Church Building Fund or Dry Fork Baptist Cemetery by mailing all donations to P.O. Box 95, Jefferson City, Mo. 65102.
