Richard Herbert Schmitz, age 89, of Jefferson City, Mo. passed away on Saturday, March 25, 2023, at Oak Tree Villas.

He was born on November 10, 1933, in Jefferson City, Mo., the son of Leo and Pauline (Cremer) Schmitz. He was married on January 27, 1962 in Jefferson City, Mo. to Anna Mae Schmutzler. Anna Mae preceded him in passing on March 21, 2023.

He attended St. Peter Catholic School in Jefferson City and later graduated from Jefferson City High School. Following his education, he went to work as a monotype operator and plate maker with Von Hoffman Press, retiring after 40 years of service. His most notable title, however, was husband and father. He enjoyed being home and spending time with his family.

Richard was well known for his ability to talk your ear off whether he knew you or not. He never met a stranger and was lovingly dubbed “The Mayor of West Miller Street”. He loved being outside fishing, keeping up his neat yard, and watching the birds. Richard was also a talented bowler and an avid sports fan, never missing a chance to catch a game on TV.

Richard was a parishioner of St. Peter Catholic Church.
