Obituary for Rometta P. Ferguson

Mrs. Rometta P. Ferguson, age 98 years, a former Jefferson City resident, passed away Saturday, November 17, 2018 at St. Luke’s East Hospital in Lee’s Summit, Mo.

Rometta was born December 14, 1919 in Callaway County, Mo. the daughter of Lemuel F. and Emma C. (Clardy) Pearre. She was married on October 16, 1948 in Jefferson City, Mo. to William Thomas Ferguson.

A lifelong resident of the central Missouri area until moving to Lee’s Summit in 1990, Rometta was a 1937 graduate of New Bloomfield High School.

Maintaining an active lifestyle in the workforce, Rometta held a variety of jobs. She was employed by J.J. Newberry and Company, Kroger Grocer and Baking Company, Bishop Florist, Saffee’s Ladies Wear, H & R Block Tax Services, Frank’s Ladies Wear, Missouri Secretary of State in the Uniform Commercial Codes Division, as well as a Jackson County Election Judge.

She was a member of the First Christian Church, where she also served as a Deaconess and Sunday School coordinator.

Rometta was always an active volunteer in the community, performing volunteer work for the American Red Cross and the John Knox Village Auxiliary. She was a past president of the Xi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, a Girl Scout leader, a PTA Room Mother, a member of the Good Sam Camping Club, and the Central Bank Classic Club.

Survivors include: one daughter, Cathy Lynne Ferguson of Grandview, Mo.; three nieces, Helen (Ecklund) Shade, Sidney Ann (Ferguson) Blount, and Sally Ferguson; two nephews, Charles Pearre, Jr. and Gregg Pearre; one sister-in-law, Geneva Pearre; numerous great-nieces and nephews, as well as great-great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William in 1975; and her brother, Charles Wesley Pearre, Sr.

Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 24, 2018 at Riverview Cemetery with the Reverend Sarah Kingsbery officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the First Christian Church or Gideons International.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.
