Obituary for Ron Smith
Ronald Dean “Ron” Smith, age 67, of New Bloomfield, Mo., passed away Saturday, December 24, 2022 at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital.
He was born on January 29, 1955 in New Hall, California, the son of Robert and Marialice (Harmon) Smith. He was married on March 6, 2016 in Las Vegas, Nv. to Cathy Camden who survives in the home.
Ron was employed in various positions throughout his life, he was an over-the-road professional truck driver, worked retail in tire shops and was also a corrections officer. His biggest achievement was being a School Bus Monitor for Durham Bus Lines in New Bloomfield, Mo. at the School for the Deaf. Ron cared deeply for the students there.
Ron was one of a kind. He made every person he met feel special, and made life-long friends everywhere he went. Ron’s strong, supportive nature truly set others at ease, he had a way of making his loved ones feel safe and secure. His family was always the center of his life and he cherished the time spent with them. He loved spending time outdoors and looked forward to camping and fishing trips. Ron also loved traveling later in life to any beach with his wife, Cathy, especially to Jamaica and Grenada. Most importantly, Ron loved his family. When he married Cathy, Ron gained children and grandchildren and seamlessly found his place within their family. They all grew to love one another effortlessly. Ron will be remembered for his magnetic energy, his giving and supportive nature and his positive outlook on life.
Survivors include: his loving wife, Cathy Smith of New Bloomfield, Mo.; his children, Brian Hobson of Salem, Mo. and Jessica Schilling (husband, Jordan) also of Salem, Mo.; six grandchildren, Haley, Brock, Benjamin and Carson Hobson, Treyton and Aleenah Schilling; a special young man who he loved like a son, Ryan Newton; his best friend, Michael Morra of Walnut Creek, Fl.; and many more friends and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A celebration of Ron's life was held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 7, 2023 at Morgan Street Pub in Boonville, Mo.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Veterans in Need Foundation 2454 N State Rd 7, Margate, Florida 33063.
Funeral arrangements are under the care of Freeman Mortuary, 915 Madison St, Jefferson City, MO 65101.
