Obituary for Ronald Thompson

Ronald J. Thompson, 68, of Holts Summit, Mo., passed away Saturday, July 20, 2019 at Heisinger Bluffs.

He was born on January 24, 1951 in Hannibal, Mo. a son of the late Charles and Audrey (Gardner) Thompson. He was married on June 14, 1975 in Orange County, Ca. to Maureen P. Downey.

Ron was a 1969 graduate of Hannibal High School. He later graduated as a Radiology Technician from St. John’s Hospital in 1976 and went on to receive his national accreditation as a Nuclear Medicine Technician in 1980.

He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps (1969-1973) and also served as a Sergeant in the Missouri Army National Guard (1984-1987).

Ron and Maureen settled in Jefferson City where they raised their two sons. He was employed as a Nuclear Medicine Technician with Capital Region Medical Center from 1981-2016. Ron was a member of Capital West Christian Church, where he was a dedicated volunteer and Sunday school teacher. He was also active in Habitat for Humanity, receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2019.

Ron was a devoted family man. When his sons were younger, he coached their baseball teams. In later years, his passion was being involved in the lives of his grandchildren. He enjoyed wrestling with his grandsons and dancing with his granddaughter. Ron would most want to be remembered as a faithful servant of God. He loved reading the Bible and listening to worship and praise music.

Survivors include: his wife, Maureen Thompson of Holts Summit, Mo.; two sons, Ryan Thompson (Raeann) of Fulton, Mo. and Sean Thompson (Melissa) of Shawnee, Ks.; siblings, Jim Thompson (Karla) of Lenexa, Ks., Carol Wagoner of Hannibal, Mo., Mary Harper (Mike) of Hannibal, Mo., John Thompson (Patti) of Amarillo, Tx., Sandy Drazba of Hannibal, Mo., Loretta Bleigh (Terry) of Hannibal, Mo., and Dorothy Seppelt of Hannibal, Mo., grandchildren, Parker, Grady, Josiah, Micah and Molly.

He was preceded in death by: brother, Charles Thompson; sister, Kathy Garrett; and nephew, Lance Bleigh.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 until 5:00 pm Wednesday, July 24, 2019 at Capital West Christian Church with a Celebration of Life service following at 5:00 pm with Mr. Ken Harland officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Show-Me Christian Youth Home.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.
