Obituary for Roy Woods

Roy Mack Woods, age 67 of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Thursday, February 23, 2023, at Stonebridge Senior Living- Villa Marie.

He was born on May 21, 1955 in Wichita, Ks., a son of Billy John and Betty Louise (Davidson) Woods. Roy worked in the Janitorial Department for various employers over the years.

Roy, lovingly known as “Mack” by his family was an incredibly unique man. Those who knew him quickly became accustomed to his various quirks, such as his Pepsi addiction and his obsession with all things John Wayne and Sci-Fi, especially Star Wars! As a kid, Roy looked up to his brother. Where Mark went, Roy was sure to be close behind, whether invited or not. He loved the outdoors and exploring in his youth. As an adult he preferred to explore the store in search of snacks, candy, movies and his beloved Pepsi. He was a loving caretaker to his numerous pets throughout his life. He had birds, cats, and a dog and loved them all very much. He enjoyed lighthearted banter with his family members and loved to challenge them to a game of pool, at which he was very skilled. He adored babies and was known to be found rocking or playing with the kids at family gatherings. Holiday dinners were a highlight of the year for Roy and he was always sure to leave with leftovers, never forgetting the dessert.

Roy was a devoted member of Bible Baptist Church and a man of strong, unwavering faith. He rarely missed a Sunday and cherished his church family. The most notable lesson the world should take from the example of Roy’s life is his ability to take all things in stride. He faced many challenges, but he was steadfast in his belief in God and never complained. He was funny, loving, and resilient. He will be missed by those who knew and loved him.

Survivors include: his brother, Robert “Mark” Woods (Trula) of Jefferson City, Mo.; three nieces, Ginger Miller, Pamela Koetting, and Rachel Lann; six great nieces and nephews, Christopher, Steven, Bryan, and Katie Miller and Savanna and Justin Koetting; and 10 great-great nieces and nephews.

Roy was greeted in Heaven by his parents, Billy and Betty Woods; sister, Linda Sue Lann; and all of his grandparents.

A visitation will be held to celebrate Roy’s life from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 2, 2023 at Freeman Mortuary. The family will lay him to rest following a private ceremony at St. Margaret of Antioch Catholic Church Cemetery.
