Obituary for Ruth Schutte

Hilda “Ruth” (Fields) Schutte, age 89, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away peacefully Friday, May 12, 2023.

She was born on July 1, 1933, in Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of Andrew Jackson Fields and Hilda Anna Minna Meyer. She was married on August 24, 1957, to Wallace William Schutte in Kansas City, Mo. who preceded her in death on May 31, 2009.

Ruth graduated from Westport High School in Kansas City and received degrees from Valparaiso University and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.

She was a faithful member of Faith Lutheran Church where she participated in Lutheran Women Missionary League and Dorcas Hand Quilters.

She was a librarian at Truman State University in Kirksville, Mo. for many years.

She enjoyed reading, quilting, gardening, genealogy collecting angels, and traveling to visit family and friends.

Ruth is survived by her children: Mark Schutte, Sara (Phil) Hartman, Susie (Ken) Newman, and John (Janet) Schutte; grandchildren: Hanna Hartman and husband Ryan Cole, Laura Hartman, Joseph Hartman, Matt (Nicky) Newman, Madison Newman, Elizabeth (Josh) Zeilinger and Tom (Megan) Schutte; great-grandchildren Lillian Cole and Connor Newman; brother, Andy Fields, sisters, Nita Runge and Eunice Beier; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Wally Schutte, her parents, and a sister, Irma Straub.

Visitation will be held Saturday, May 20, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, 2027 Industrial Drive, Jefferson City, Mo.

A funeral service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 20, 2023, at Faith Lutheran Church with the Reverend Tobin Scott officiating. Interment will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Park View Memorial Gardens, 2100 East Shepherd Avenue, Kirksville, Mo.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Valparaiso University Scholarship Fund, Faith Lutheran Building Fund, or NAMI Jefferson City.
