Obituary for Ruth “Pat” Brown

Ruth “Pat” Arlene Brown, age 80 years, of Jefferson City, MO, passed away Saturday, October 17, 2020 at her home surrounded by her family.

She was born on December 18, 1939 in Peoria, IL, the daughter of Arthur and Margaret (Dallowitz) Gibson Jr. She was married on June 14, 1958 in Peoria, IL to Harold Brown.

She was a resident of the Peoria, IL, Argyle, WI, and the Jefferson City, MO areas. Pat was a 1957 graduate of Woodruff High School and a 1958 graduate of the Browns School of Business.

She worked for Owens Illinois Glass Company in Peoria, IL and was later employed at Browntown Foundry in Browntown, WI. Most notably, Pat was a farm wife, a position that required many skills, a lot of know-how and a high level of adaptability. When the family relocated to Jefferson City, Pat began working for the Missouri Department of Transportation from which she retired in 2004.

She was a woman of faith and an active member of First Church of God in Jefferson City. Pat cherished her church involvement and worked as the Sunday school secretary and was the benevolence and special events organizer for many years.

Pat put God and family first in her life. She enjoyed family camping trips, Sunday dinners and knew the true value of time spent together. For those who knew her well, she was known as a caring, giving, accepting, inclusive and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Pat was very proud of her grandchildren and was always there for them in any situation. She was hard working and adventurous, traits exhibited in her years on the farm and interest in trap shooting. Pat was interested in genealogy and enjoyed exploring her family history, traced back to Scotland and Ireland. She even took a trip to both Scotland and Ireland with her sister to meet their cousin and see many locations directly tied to her family name. Pat loved animals and would feed any wayward creature that came to the door. She could often be found feeding the barn cats, protecting the thieving racoons and loving on various family dogs. She had a heart for giving and was always doing something to help someone else.
