Obituary for Sharon Hicks

Sharon Kay Hicks, age 72, of New Bloomfield, Mo., passed away, Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at Capital Region Medical Center.

She was born on July 12, 1951, in St. Louis, Mo., the daughter of Joseph F. and Faye Louise (Nanney) Smith. She was married on June 21, 1975, in Manchester, Mo., to Richard Raymond Hicks who passed away on October 10, 2020.

Sharon graduated from Lafayette High School in St. Louis. Her professional career included working at General American Insurance Company in St. Louis, before retiring after 17 years working for the State of Missouri, Department of Revenue.

Sharon enjoyed playing cards, dining at local restaurants, shopping, but most of all spending time with family and friends She always looked forward to family vacations as Brian was growing up.

Sharon, above everything, loved her family. Her grandson, Tyler, meant the absolute world to her, which she was sure to tell everyone she met. She loved their excursions to Walmart, lunch dates, games and simple afternoons spent in each other’s company.

Sharon was a loving and supportive woman who cared for her family and friends and though she weathered many storms throughout her life, she used those challenges to cultivate strength and always persevered. Sharon made friends easily and always enjoyed connecting with others.

Sharon is survived by: her son, Brian Hicks of New Bloomfield, Mo.; beloved grandson, Tyler Hicks; mother, Faye Smith, of St. Louis, Mo.; sister, Betty Miller, of St. Louis, Mo.; her bonus daughter, Jennifer Hicks of New Bloomfield, Mo.; and numerous nieces, nephews, and beloved friends.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Richard; her father, Joseph Smith; and her Aunt Stella.

A private family gathering will be held to celebrate Sharon’s life.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to a charity of the donor’s choice.
