Obituary for Sheryl Gillmore
Mrs. Sheryl Lea Gillmore, age 56, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away peacefully Saturday, October 31, 2020 at her home.
Sheryl was born on July 6, 1964 in Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of Leslie Lee and Roberta Ruth (Rice) Woodall. She was married on March 12, 1988 in Blue Springs, Mo. to Edward P. Gillmore who survives at the home.
Sheryl was a 1982 graduate of Blue Springs High School and was proud to be a member of the marching band and color guard. She participated in the Macy Day Parade and Rose Bowl during her time in the band. After graduation, she attended Central Missouri State University where she met her husband, Ed. In 1987, Sheryl graduated with a degree in Home Economics and Drafting.
Sheryl was employed with the Missouri Department of Transportation for 14 years where she helped plot state maps with GIS. She also worked for Capital City Christian Church for a few years and enjoyed the relationships she fostered from the church. Most recently, Sheryl has been employed with the Cole County Water District #3 in St. Martins. For the last 7 years, she has served as the District Manager.
Sheryl was a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha at the University of Central Missouri. She was also an active member of Girl Scouts and a 26-year member of Capital City Christian Church.
Sheryl was her children’s and grandchildren’s biggest supporter with her life revolving around family. She truly bled green and white when it came to her kids and their sports and activities. Sheryl could always be found cheering the kids and grandkids on the court, field and wrestling mat at Blair Oaks. Sheryl looked forward to tailgating at “Friday Night Lights” and spending time with all of the other football moms, which she claimed as her best friends. One of her favorite memories was the 2018 Blair Oaks Football State Championship Game.
Sheryl enjoyed being on the beach or anywhere with water where she could relax. She loved camping, and being outdoors, especially on the Osage River. When Sheryl was a child, she ice skated on Lake Tapawingo. Her and Ed enjoyed spending time together on the slopes. Sheryl enjoyed crafting, especially when it involved her grandkids. Sheryl truly believed in the gift of experiences and memories instead of gifts. Some of their favorite memories were Christmas shopping on Black Friday and organizing anything she had her hand in.
Sheryl will be remembered for her kind and giving heart, and for being the most supportive wife, mom and “MoMo”.
Survivors include: her loving husband of over 30 years, Ed Gillmore; three children, Breylee Evers (Cody) of Jefferson City, Mo., Aly Dixon (Drew) of Lubbock, Tx., and Shane Gillmore of Jefferson City, Mo; four grandchildren, Zilphia Jo, Charleigh JoAnn, Colt Joseph, and Memphis Ann; two sisters, Brenda Mattoon (Gregg) of Grain Valley, Mo. and Joyce Syler (Howard) of Brunswick, Mo; one sister-in-law, Tammy Anson of Jefferson City, Mo; three nieces, Kylee Mattoon (Justin Winn), Tiara Syler, Lena Haill (Nick); four nephews, Tyler Mattoon (Katie), Sam Syler, Dodge Syler; one great-niece, Bri Haill; two great-nephews, Kain Haill and Caysen Syler.
Sheryl was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation will be held at Capital City Christian Church from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Thursday, November 5, 2020. The general public is welcome to attend the visitation while following social distancing guidelines.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 6, 2020 at Capital City Christian Church with the Reverend Don Fankhauser officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held at Link Cemetery in Wainwright, Mo.
A webcast of Sheryl’s service will begin at 9:45 a.m. on Friday for friends that are not able to attend by going to Capital City Christian Church’s website and click the “watch” header on their homepage.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Blair Oaks Football Fundraiser Account. Friends may mail sympathy cards to the funeral home or leave condolences online to be given to her family.
