Obituary for Shirley J. Brown (Ott)

Shirley Jeanine (Ott) Brown, age 85 years, of Sunrise Beach, Mo. passed away Thursday, December 3, 2020 at her home surrounded by loved ones.

Shirley was born on April 26, 1935 in Jefferson, MO to Leonard and Elno Ott. She graduated from Jefferson City in 1954. She later moved to Columbia, MO where she raised two sons, Chuck and Steve Thompson, and one daughter, Rene Thompson. On August 20, 1994, she married her high school sweetheart, Harold “Brownie” Brown.

Shirley and Brownie owned and operated the Zesto restaurants in Jefferson City until their retirement in 2004. Shirley was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed spending time at the lake surrounded by family and friends, traveling the world taking cruises with Brownie, and boating around the lake on their wooden cruiser, “The Gray Ghost”. She made the most delicious fried chicken, told the greatest stories, albeit over and over, had a lively sense of humor, and made all those that were close to her feel very loved.

She is survived by her husband, Harold; three children, Chuck, Steve (Christy), and Rene; stepdaughter, Lori (Kennan); and several grandchildren.

Shirley was preceded in death by her father, Leonard, and her mother, Elno.

A visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 8, 2020 at Freeman Mortuary. The general public is welcome to attend while following social distancing guidelines. All family and friends are required to wear personal masks or other personal protective equipment while in attendance.

A celebration of Shirley’s life will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 8, 2020 in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Bill Nigus officiating. A graveside service and interment will be held at Riverview Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are appreciated to The Pink Fund, P.O. Box 603
Bloomfield Hills, MI 48303.
