Obituary for Sue Englund

Margaret Sue “Mama Sue” Englund, age 84, of Jefferson City, Mo. passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at Boone Hospital in Columbia, Mo. surrounded by her loving family.

Sue was born on December 8, 1937, a daughter of Charles and Pauline (Ewing) McNealy. She was married on September 2, 1956 in Sedalia, Mo. to Lawrence “Larry” Englund, who preceded her in death on September 21, 2005.

As a resident of central Missouri for the majority of her life, Sue graduated from Smith Cotton High School in 1955. She, Larry, and family moved from Sedalia to Jefferson City in 1973. Sue and Larry then moved to Kansas City in 1993 and returned to Jefferson City in 2000 to be closer to her family.

She managed hospital & physician’s offices from 1956 until 1980 and worked for the Division of Medical Services for ten years. The two main doctor’s offices that she helped manage were Dr. Lowe in Sedalia and Dr. Tanner in Jefferson City. Sue last worked for University Physicians in Kansas City for eight years returning to Jefferson City in 2000. After returning to Jefferson City, she worked part time for Whaley’s Pharmacy and Corwin Honda.

Sue was a strong woman of faith and a member of First Presbyterian Church in Jefferson City. She was proud to serve as a Church Hostess for eight years. It was in this role that she became known as the “Cookie Lady” by the children. She served as a Deacon during her time at the Broadway Presbyterian Church in Sedalia. She was a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and a past Honored Queen and a past Guardian of Job’s Daughter, Bethel #15 in Sedalia. She recently moved to Primrose and she enjoyed being the President of their living community.

Sue cherished time with her children and grandchildren; attending every sporting event and was the family’s number one fan. She enjoyed family trips and watching Chiefs and Jay football games. Sue looked forward to family gatherings where everyone was together sharing her home cooked meals, and knew the true value of time spent together. For those who knew her well, she was known as a caring, giving, witty, and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and friend with a boisterous personality. Sue will be remembered for her contagious laugh, large smile and will be greatly missed by her loving family.

Survivors include: two sons, Mark Englund (wife Carol) and Scott Englund (wife Lori), both of Jefferson City, Mo.; three grandchildren, Lee Merrick (husband Adam), Sam Englund and Scottie Englund; five great-grandchildren; one step grandson, Kyle Dubbert (wife Bridgett); and two step great-grandchildren.
