Obituary for Susan C. Busby

Susan Claire Busby of Jefferson City, Missouri, passed away Friday, September 27, 2019 at the age of 68. She was a devoted daughter, sister, aunt and friend.

Susan was born on November 7, 1950, in Honolulu, Hawaii, a daughter of Douglas R. Busby Sr., a United States Air Force Colonel, and Phyllis Ann West. Part of a military family, Susan moved every two years around the country before settling in Warrensburg, Missouri. While there, Susan attended College High School and the University of Central Missouri.

Susan loved her family more than anything, especially her many nieces and nephews. To support herself, she worked for 20 years alongside her brother, Dr. Douglas R. Busby, Jr., at his dental practice as the receptionist and administrative assistant. In 2015, Susan went on to work for Edward Jones as a Branch Office Assistant to Financial Advisor D.J. Thrash. Susan was committed to truly helping their patients, clients, and the community they all served. She had a remarkable ability of remembering events, special dates, and personal interests, all stemming from her genuine regard and care for people.

Susan had a variety of passions. First, being her beloved dog, Putter. She also loved gardening, immersed herself in photography, coin collecting, and unknown to most people, she was a skilled golfer (was a ranked amateur in her teen years for the New England Region, with her dad as her caddy!).

Susan will be greatly missed. Her survivors include: her sister, Candace Titus of Grand Rapids, MI; brother, James Busby (Laura Dee) of Overland Park, KS; sisters-in-law, Judith Busby of Jefferson City, MO and Marilyn Busby of Shawnee, KS; cousin, Chalmers Ephriam West III of Sacramento, CA; aunt, Peggy Busby of CA; numerous nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog, Putter and cats, Chloe and Zoey.

She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Dr. Douglas R. Busby, Jr., William R. Busby, and brother-in-law, Peter Titus.

Visitation will be held at Freeman Mortuary from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Saturday, October 5, 2019.

A memorial service will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, October 5, 2019 in the Freeman Chapel. Graveside services and interment will be held at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.
