Obituary

Mr. Thomas L. Hoskins, age 75, of Henley, Mo., passed away on Saturday, June 29, 2019 with family by his side.

Tom was born May 13, 1944 on the family farm in Cole County to Earl E., Sr. and Leora M. (Sappenfield) Hoskins. He was married on June 13, 1964 in Versailles, Mo. to Doris J. “Mickey” Marriott.

A lifelong resident of the Central Missouri area, Tom was a 1962 graduate of Cole County R-5 at Eugene.

He was employed with Sears and Roebuck for twenty years and later with the Missouri Dept. of Revenue, retiring after twenty-five years as Management Supervisor in 2008. After retirement, he was a temporary employee with the Missouri Baptist Convention.

Tom was a lifelong member of Hickory Hill Baptist Church where he also served as deacon and Sunday school teacher. Tom enjoyed teaching creation from Genesis Chapter 1-11, proclaiming the authority of God’s word, the Bible, from the very first verse.

Tom was a hard worker and instilled his work ethic in his children. He worked and lived on the family farm until his passing. He loved telling stories of growing up on the farm, about his youth and the many adventures that he encountered.

Most of all he loved spending time with his family. Tom's life was enriched greatly by his children, grandsons and great-granddaughter. In later years, Tom and Mickey enjoyed annual family trips. Tom was a strong, loving and generous man who was always willing to help his neighbors and friends.

Survivors include: his wife of fifty-five years, Mickey Hoskins; two sons, Troy Hoskins (Tara) and Travis Hoskins (Nikki) both of Jefferson City, Mo.; two grandsons, Adam Hoskins (Andi) of Henley, Mo., and Zachary Hoskins (Lauren) of Springfield, Mo.; his great-granddaughter, Lily Hoskins; two brothers, Wilburn Hoskins (Sue) of Henley, Mo. and Bob Hoskins (Lou) of Eldon, Mo.; and foster son, Derek Gorris (Etsuko) and daughter, Nancy, of Guam.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; sister, Juanita Kirchner; and brother, Earl Hoskins, Jr.

Visitation will be held at Freeman Mortuary from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2019.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 3, 2019 in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Shane Crum officiating. Graveside services will follow at Spring Garden Cemetery near Eugene, Mo.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Hickory Hill Baptist Church Building Fund or Hospice Compassus.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.

I saw this too late to attend. Mom and I were fondly remembering the time you came to our house for dinner and the time we came to your house on a summer day, both in the early 1970’s. Our sympathy and prayers,
Fr. Chris Cordes and Gerrie Cordes
