Obituary for Tim Alexander

Alan Timothy “Tim” Alexander, age 79, of Holts Summit, Mo., passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at Harry S. Truman Veterans’ Hospital.

Tim was born on February 6, 1943 in Macon, Mo., the son of Charles Orville “Ax” and Virginia “Veedy” (Darr) Alexander. He was married on March 25, 1972 in Webster Groves, Mo. to Janice Gayle “Jan” Barry, who survives.

A lifelong resident of the central Missouri area, Tim graduated from Jefferson City High School in 1961. During his time in high school he was involved in the Jay Band. They performed at the Inauguration for President John F. Kennedy, which Tim was extremely proud of. Then when his son, Mark joined the Jay Marching Band, also as a trumpet player, Tim was part of the Band Boosters.

He attended the University of Missouri where he continued to play with the Marching Mizzou Band. Just short of earning his degree, he enlisted in the United States Army, serving during the Vietnam War. He was stationed in Korea during his time in the service as a trumpet player with the Eighth Army Band, also serving as the Band Supply Sergeant. There were numerous performances with small combo's that Tim directed.

Tim spent many years as a car salesman for several dealerships in the Jefferson City area. He always appreciated nice cars and enjoyed having his own sports car. He later shifted his focus to computer information technology. He worked in this capacity until his retirement from Capital Region Medical Center as their IT Manager.

Tim was a lifetime member of First Christian Church. He earned his Eagle Scout rank in May, 1959 and enjoyed many trips to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. Tim continued traveling out west with Jan and Mark and later Jacob. He cherished this time spent with them in his favorite part of the country.

Tim’s life revolved around his music and he was a wonderful trumpet player. He was a member of the Kapital Kicks and cherished his involvement with the group for many, many years. He was blessed with friendships from the band and loved practicing, playing and being around others that shared his passion for music. Tim used his talent to instruct many students how to properly play a trumpet. Several have gone on to pursue outstanding careers in music.

Survivors include: his loving wife of 50 years, Jan Barry; son, Mark Alexander; brother, Jon Alexander (Lois); and his grandson, Jacob Alexander, all of Jefferson City, Mo.

A reception will be held at Freeman Mortuary from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Thursday, September 8, 2022. To honor Tim’s musical talents, recordings of the Kapital Kicks will be played throughout the reception and a live rendition of “Taps” will be played to conclude the reception at 7:00 p.m. Thursday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to First Christian Church to help with their Food Bank or the Boy Scouts of America by mailing all donations to P.O. Box 95, Jefferson City, Mo. 65102.

Funeral arrangements are under the care of Freeman Mortuary.
