Thomas Lane Stone, age 68, of Jefferson City, MO., passed away Wednesday, January 18, 2023, at University Hospital in Columbia, MO.
Tom was born on August 13, 1954, in Bonn, Germany, the son of Lon L. and Maria I. (Wanek) Stone. He was born while his father was stationed overseas serving our country.
Tom met his lifelong sweetheart, Robin Alberts, in the sixth grade and they grew up together living in the same neighborhood. They were married on November 22, 1973, in Jefferson City, MO and have been married for nearly 50 years.
A lifelong resident of Central Missouri, Tom was a 1973 graduate of Jefferson City High School and later graduated from Linn State Technical College of Missouri with an Associate’s Degree in drafting.
With his drafting degree, Tom was able to begin his professional career with the City of Jefferson as a draftsman. He then began working as a draftsman and construction foreman for his father-in-law at Alberts Construction. They worked closely together for many years until Tom began his employment with the State of Missouri under the Office of Administration. Tom served as a construction inspector for 20 years until he retired at the age of 62. Leveraging his expert skill set, Tom designed and built multiple homes for his family to live in over the years.
Tom will be remembered for his hard-working nature, quick wit, and “tell it like it is” sense of humor. His family always appreciated his willingness to jump to action to help with construction projects where he often used his colorful “working words”. If you knew him well, you knew he had a big heart underneath his tough exterior.
Above everything, Tom loved and cherished his family. His favorite role was being “Papaw” to his five grandchildren. You would always find him in the stands cheering them on at sporting events or playing with them in the pool. He enjoyed the Lake of the Ozarks on warm days and looked forward to long pontoon rides with his crew.
Tom is survived by: his loving wife of nearly 50 years, Robin; two children, Chelle Sloan and Matt Stone, both of Jefferson City, MO.; sister, Renae Woodland of Jefferson City, MO.; brother, Eric Stone (Donna) of Jefferson City, MO.; five grandchildren, Maddi Stone, Brady Sloan, Olivia Sloan, Ava Stone and Edie Sloan; mother-in-law, Wanda Alberts; sisters-in-law, Ronda Griggs (Rick) and Roxanne Wilson (Randy); brother-in-law, Rick Alberts (Holly); several nieces and nephews; and his beloved dogs.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lon and Maria Stone; his father-in-law, Richard Alberts; and a brother-in-law, Rick Woodland.
