Thomas Eugene Thompson age 76, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away peacefully at Capital Region Medical Center on Tuesday, February 7, 2023.
He was born July 29, 1946, in Jefferson City, Mo., a son of Henry Eugene and Mabel Mary (Schneider) Thompson.
On June 10, 1966, he married his high school sweetheart, Judy Ann Bates, at Central Church, formerly Central United Church of Christ in Jefferson City.
A 1964 graduate of Russellville High School, he attended the University of Missouri and graduated from Lincoln University in 1970.
He was employed with Unilever (Chesebrough-Pond’s) for 36 years, retiring in 2003 as the Maintenance Manager/Senior Project Engineer.
A lifetime faithful member of Central Church, he taught Senior High Sunday School for twenty-five years and served as Council President and the Building and Grounds Supervisor. He also served twelve years on the Cole R-1 School Board and was a member of the Cole County Farm Bureau.
After retirement, his time was spent raising cattle, baling hay, growing soybeans, cutting wood and driving his John Deere tractors.
In younger years he and Judy enjoyed snow skiing in Colorado. His greatest enjoyment and favorite pastime was attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.
Survivors include: his wife of fifty-six years, Judy Thompson; two sons, Jeff L. Thompson and his wife Diane of Jefferson City, Mo., and Jason E. Thompson and his wife Jennifer of Lohman, Mo.; six grandchildren; Luke Thompson, Jefferson City, Mo., Alex Thompson, St. Louis, Mo.; Nick Thompson, Jefferson City, Mo.; Rebecca Thompson (Fiancé, Jacob Mueller), Lohman, Mo.; Rachel Thompson, Columbia, Mo. and Leah Thompson, Lohman, Mo.; two brothers; Harry G. Thompson and wife Jana of Lohman, Mo. and Mark A. Thompson and wife Pam of Lohman, Mo.; three sisters-in-law; Karen Thompson, Jefferson City, Mo.; Barbara Shepherd and her husband Rick of Eugene, Mo.; and Connie Bates, Jefferson City, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Richard L. Thompson; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Omar and Alberta Bates; one brother-in-law; Donald L. Bates; and one nephew, Eric Shepherd.
Visitation will be held at Freeman Mortuary from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Monday, February 13, 2023.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 14, 2023, at Central Church with the Reverend Dr. Jason Abbott officiating. Graveside service and interment will be held at Riverview Cemetery.
