Obituary for Tony Lee Murray

Tony L. Murray, age 51, of Jefferson City, Mo., went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, February 13, 2022 at the Capital Region Medical Center.

Tony was born on June 16, 1970 in Pettis County, Mo. He grew up in Sedalia, Mo. and was a graduate of Smith-Cotton High School.

He has been a resident of the Maplewood Residential Care Facility for 25 years and thought of the caregivers, administrators and residents as his family. He worked for Sheltered Workshops for a few years but his biggest blessing was sharing his loving personality with others. Tony was a talker and even though stubborn at times, never complained about life struggles. He loved telling jokes and would call friends frequently to share his recent pun.

Tony was a longtime member of First Baptist Church, Jefferson City. He showed up to every church service or program ready to serve others and profess his faith. Tony loved being a part of the Gordon Barnes Special Needs Adult Class and was an eager and willing volunteer. He was the first to volunteer for the church’s Vacation Bible School Program and loved serving each year as part of Mission JC, a morning of community service for churches and friends.

Tony was extremely passionate about our country and his love for the United States Armed Forces. He was a regular visitor at the local Armed Forces Recruitment Center. The recruiters always took time out of their day for Tony, which made him feel like he helping support our troops. He was always collecting military flags and other items to share with others.

Survivors include his many loving friends, his Maplewood family and his First Baptist Church family.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 22, 2022 in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Melissa Hatfield officiating. An informal visitation will follow his service. Graveside services and interment will be held at Riverview Cemetery.

A webcast of his service will begin at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday for friends that are not able to attend by going to his memorial page on the funeral home website.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to First Baptist Church or the Wounded Warriors Project.

Funeral arrangements are under the care of Freeman Mortuary.
