Obituary for Wilbur E. Bernskoetter

Mr. Wilbur Elmer Bernskoetter, age 79, of Henley, Mo. passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2022.

Wilbur was born on February 22, 1943 in Taos, Mo. a son of Joseph and Roseanna (Wekenborg) Bernskoetter.

A lifelong resident of the central Missouri area, Wilbur was a 1961 graduate of Fatima High School. Throughout his life, he was gifted with a great memory. He would often remember and share stories about classmates from Fatima.

He was married on March 23, 1974 at Our Lady of Snows Catholic Church in Mary’s Home to Ethel Mae Jacobs, who preceded him in death on July 19, 2017. Wilbur always shared the story that there was a rare spring blizzard that day and he was responsible for picking the wedding day.

Wilbur was proud to be a lifelong farmer and possessed a strong work ethic. He stayed busy on the farm by cutting cedar trees to harvest, tending to his cattle, and taking a gator ride with family. He truly loved being around family on the homestead and always welcomed their company when tending to cattle. His favorite times on the farm were family dinners when everyone could be together.

Wilbur helped Ethel Mae with her catering company for over 30 years. He was her biggest supporter and was proud to be known as the official potato masher. He helped deliver thousands of cinnamon rolls throughout the years. Wilbur was also employed for over 20 years with McGraw Edison.

He was a faithful member of Our Lady of Snows Catholic Church in Mary’s Home. He volunteered his time at the church picnic and had his rosary on him throughout each day.

During any free time, he was watching a football or baseball game, especially cheering for the Cardinals.

He will be remembered for his witty sense of humor, his ornery grin and independent nature. Wilbur showed his love through actions and always being there for anyone in need.

Survivors include: three children, Brenda Otto (Alphonse) of St. Anthony, Mo., Larry Limbach (Dayna) of Henley, Mo. and Terry Bernskoetter (Stephanie) of Eugene, Mo.; son-in-law, Richard Clarkston of Lohman, Mo.; sister, Ella Heckman of Wardsville, Mo.; nine grandchildren, Megan Wilde (Jason), George Otto (Taylor), Kallee Clarkston, Dakota Clarkston, Koby Limbach (Morgan), Jarin Limbach, Ashton Gettle (Jacob), Colin Bernskoetter and Caleb Bernskoetter; four great-grandchildren, Henry, Braxton and Hadley Wilde and Emersyn Otto; and his beloved dog, Chip, that followed him everywhere on the farm.
