Obituary for William E. Bisbee Sr.
William Eugene Bisbee, Sr., 94, of Jefferson City, MO passed away on Saturday, December 28, 2019.
William was born in Waterloo, Iowa on May 27, 1925. He was taken in and cared for by Helen Gilham. He was raised during the great depression and, following his mother, traveled throughout the country.
He enlisted in the Navy during WWII and was stationed in the South Pacific, Hawaii and returned, upon discharge, to Union, MO. He met the love of his life, Mary Helling, at Carmo Shoe factory and they were married on May 31, 1947. He and Mary had two children, Deborah Ann, in 1949, and William Jr., in 1951.
He went to work for Fischer Body/General Motors/St. Louis in 1949 and worked until his retirement in 1979. He loved being with his wife and children, involving himself in all his children’s activities: baseball, softball, Boy Scouts and church activities.
Upon his retirement they purchased a farm in Westphalia, on the bluffs of the Osage River. They moved to Jefferson City in 1987 after he experienced heart issues. Bill loved dancing with his wife and they had a very good group of friends that frequented local dancing venues and enjoyed playing Preference. Bill and Mary traveled extensively throughout the US and Western Europe.
He was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Schubert. Bill loved hunting, fishing, nature and bird watching. He had a great wit and loved being with people.
Bill will be missed by all of his family: Mary Bisbee of Jefferson City; Deborah and Richard Lemke of Greer, SC; William Bisbee, Jr. of Kansas City, MO; Stephan and Gina Langston and sons of La Grange, GA; Yara and Mike Butler of Chappells, SC; Amy and Joe Morales and children of Shawnee, KS; and Grace Bisbee of Denver, CO.
He was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Mary Anne Bisbee.
Visitation will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, January 4th, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Schubert. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 am with the Reverend Gerald Scheperle officiating. Interment with military honors will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. John’s Lutheran Church.
