William Franklin Chapman, Sr., 96 years, of Jefferson City, passed away Sunday, November 18, 2018 at the Jefferson City Nursing Rehabilitation.

He was born on October 25, 1922 to Leslie and Kathryn (Schlauffler) Chapman in Jefferson City, Missouri.

He was married to Patricia Ann (Mullen) Chapman on December 24, 1943, in Ft. Riley Kansas who preceded him in death on August 1, 2014 .

Bill, Sr. was a graduate of Jefferson City High School class of 1942. From January 1943 to October 1945, he served in the United States Army as a surgical technician (medic) and was attached to the 79th infantry, landing at Normandy on D-Day plus six, northern France, Rhineland, Central Europe and the Battle of the Bulge at Bastogne. He was awarded four bronze stars, a good conduct medal and campaign ribbons.

He worked with his father’s trucking company 1945 - 1954, the Jefferson City Police Department 1954- 1959 and Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop 1959 — 1987, retired. He was the 39th driver's license examiner in the State of Missouri.

Bill, Sr. enjoyed fishing, boating, pitching horseshoes (tournaments) and collecting Swarovski Crystal. He also enjoyed woodworking and built a camping trailing that he took the family on a month-long trip through the west.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Jefferson City, Fraternal Order of the Eagles, the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Wears Creek Yacht Club.

He is survived by his sons; William F. Chapman, Jr. (Margaret) of Golden, Colorado, Thomas L. Chapman (Janet) of Mystic, Connecticut; grandchildren; Mathew (Jennifer) Chapman, Elizabeth (Toby) Trebilcock, Joseph (Carolyn) Chapman; great-grandchildren; Isaiah Chapman, Sarah Chapman, Gage Trebilcock, Trent Trebilcock, Lillian Chapman, Alyssa Chapman, Connor Chapman.

His sisters Betty Chapman and Joan Prenger preceded Bill, Sr. in death.

Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 24, 2018.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 24, 2018 in the Freeman Chapel. Graveside services and interment with military honors will be conduct at the Mausoleum of Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church of Jefferson City.
