Obituary

Mr. Jerry R. Summers, age 53 years, of Holts Summit, Mo., died Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at Capital Region Medical Center surrounded by family.

Jerry was born June 9, 1965 in Fulton, Mo. a son of Isaac and Mary (Teeters) Summers.

A lifelong resident of the Central Missouri area, Jerry graduated from Jefferson City High School and served in the United States Army from 1985 until 1992.

He was employed as a Corrections Officer with Algoa Correctional Center for over fifteen years until ill health forced his retirement.

Jerry enjoyed woodworking, fishing, target shooting, and collecting firearms. Most importantly, he cherished time with his family and friends.

Survivors include: two daughters, Kristen Moore of Fulton, Mo. and Rachel Summers of Holts Summit, Mo.; two grandchildren, Carter Moore and Cadence Moore; and five siblings, Mary Morgan, Bobby Summers, Carol Samson (Roger), Larry Summers (Carolyn), and John Summers (Lisa).

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Johnnie Morgan, Allen Summers, and Terry Summers.

Visitation will be held at Freeman Mortuary from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Friday, February 15, 2019.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, February 16, 2019 in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Jeff Higbie officiating. Military honors will conclude his service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Goldschmidt Cancer Center.

So sorry for your loss. Jerry was a dear friend of my husband,Charley. He was always helpful to Charley. I’m thankful for the time Jerry helped me take Charley from St. Mary’s to CR hospital when my husband had a stroke.

I was Jerry’s 7th social studies teacher. He was a delightful kid and grew into a wonderful man. I have fond memories of his sense of humor, kindness to others and curiosity about many things. I’m saddened to learn of his passing, but am comforted he is no longer struggling with illness. May God bless his family.
